Topographical Influence on Snag Distribution in a Subtropical Forest in South China

Snags are highly important for many wildlife species and ecological processes. In this study, we analyzed the relationship between snags topographic factors in a secondary forest plot South China. Data on 544 were collected recorded from 236 subplots permanent (400 subplots). The frequency of Castanopsis carlesii Schima superba was higher than that other species. derived mostly saplings small trees, presence decreased as DBH height increased after 25 years logging. displayed an aggregated spatial pattern distribution, which strongly correlated with elevation, slope steepness, aspect (p < 0.05), revealed by canonical correspondence analysis (CCA); however, response varied factors. Our results demonstrate topography is factor affects snag distribution subtropical forest. These will further improve our understanding dynamics provide guidance management biodiversity conservation.
